 News v.3
« Result #1 on Feb 7, 2009, 5:21pm »

The point of the news section is to answer one question: What is going on at Daliath? Right now, the answer to that question is nothing or, at least, almost nothing. What is happening is that I am closing Daliath.

Yes, you did, in fact, just read that correctly. After everything Daliath has gone through- surviving a pair of admins with almost no understanding of how to use Url (much less how to design an entire website), the disappearance of one of those admins, and then moving to a new website. After everything I'm finally calling it quits. I've been having a lot of computer problems lately (which is why I've been absent recently) and the site wasn't exactly thriving in the first place, recently reaching a whopping 3 whole members.

Of course, I might come back and reopen Daliath, go back to fiddling with the characters and storylines everyone here has had so much fun creating but it doesn't look like that will be happening in the near future.
So, until then, here's your admin signing off one last time.
I wish you luck.

Emillyn caught Amarith's full attention as soon as she hit the ground. The massive dragon turned, shifting so that she could get a better view of her rider, her Emillyn. A new kind of panic began to set in, crawling from the farthest depths of Amarith's startled mind- no dragon ever wants to lose their rider and sun stroke is several steps to close to that as far as the queen was concerned.
Fanth's voice. Amarith stopped, the frightened whirling of her large eyes slowing to the color of curiosity tinged with worry, and watched the young man with his sun-soaked hair carried her rider indoors, away from the dangerous heat. 'You'll be alright.' the dragon told her rider in a cautious tone, reinforcing something that she both believed and faintly doubted. How could anything be alright after everything that had happened to Daliath.

Brenan glanced up at the anxious dragon before quickly following Fanth. Stepping as lightly as possible on the churning sand, Brenan forged ahead and quickly yanked the stiff door open. Staring down the dismal hall, Brenan was relieved by the sigh of cool air that sank from the open doorway. This was bound to help Emillyn recover or at least it would help more than staying outside in the heat.

As for Emillyn herself, she, of course, didn’t react at all to this occurrence because she was out cold. Had the weyrwoman been awake though, there is no doubt she would have insisted on walking back into the weyr herself, even if she had to lean on someone to manage it.

"We need to get her inside," Erris agreed, startled, as he followed Fanth, "As soon as she wakes up we should give her something to drink since she's probably dehydrated." Walking beside Fanth, Erris felt a bit useless at the moment. He should have been more insistent. It would be nice if he could at least run ahead and maybe prepare some moist towels to bring the weyrwoman's temperature down or get a couple cups of water ready but he couldn't do that either because he didn't know where anything was at Daliath. "Just tell me if you need any help." Erris offered finally, his smile having disappeared from his face.

"Okay then." Darren replied, his usual bouncy cheer fading slightly, "Well, I hope he feels better soon. See you around Meryn, Ria!" And with that, Darren returned to the meeting where Darius was already glaring daggers at his chattery head.

(Yes, I know. Very anti-climatic. Short. Not much to respond to. That would be because there's going to be a new thread starting up for Daliath Hold which will cover both the meeting and the aftermath of the council's decision.)

(I could see using Delia as a nickname but I suppose only a dragon would think of referring to someone like Cordelia as Deli or, that is, think of referring to them as such in their presence. :P)

"Alright." T'ren agreed patiently as Marneth gave an amused rumble in the background, "Then I'll meet the four of you out in front of the weyr as soon as you're finished."
As the weyrling master left the Kitchens and wandered off to gather the equipment he realized that this meant more than a young rider reaching out to a peer, it meant he would be carrying all of the equipment by himself. 'So that's what you found so amusing.'
Marneth gave another draconic laugh as he launched himself skyward.
T'ren was dealing with the less than charming task of carrying several sets of equipment at once. 'How is the weather, Marneth? Good for practice with the flamethrowers?'
'Yes.' came the blue dragon's response. Marneth was already choosing a spot to land, 'It is early, the sky is the color of tangerines, and it is only beginning to get warm. But I'm not sure why you bothered me about the weather. We both now the climate here well enough by now to know what to expect.'

Aerina's response to Cordelia's generosity was considerably less understanding. As soon as T'ren had disappeared from sight, Aerina turned an irate pair of brown eyes toward Cordelia. "I don't need your help." her voice snapped, her dragon watched both girls apprehensively, "I don't need anyone's help!" Aerina swept to her feet, feathery clumps of brown hair racing to follow her as the wiry girl headed for the broom that was kept in the Kitchens. Behind her, Ranith hesitated, trying to decide whether or not it would be safe to follow her rider. In the end Ranith decided to follow. The green dragonette didn't make it far though, perhaps a couple feet beyond the quietly oozing pile of partially chewed meat. It was at this point that she met Aerina on her return trip with the broom. Since Aerina didn't see the small dragon, she found herself toppling to the ground, her skin scraping against Ranith's patchy hide, and her forehead further liquefying the pile of meat as it landed with a sickening squish.
Ranith patted her rider's calf with a sympathetic claw, 'I love you.'

(Does any of that makes sense? Are there tangerines on Pern? Do they call them tangerines? Would anyone like to give me a tangerine? Augh. Too many questions and Christmas Break is almost over... *facekeyboard* On the upside though, I think I got Cordelia's name right for a change. Yay me!)

As a child of a Gold Rider himself, Fanth didn't have any trouble empathizing with the situation. Though he'd never dealt with so much heat, he had his fair share of dealing with women and dragons like Emillyn and Amarith. So he figured this wouldn't be too difficult. The blonde turned his eyes upon the large Gold dragon, nodding a little to show his respect before winking up at her. The twinkle in his smile and the kindness in his blue eyes should have been enough to set the great beast at ease with what he was about to do.
"Please, forgive me ladies," he motioned to both the rider and her dragon before stepping forward and acting. "But I must agree with Brenan, and Erris, that it would be best for not only the rest of us but for you, my lady, to spend a little time inside." And without further ado, Fanth bent and scooped the Weyrwoman up into his arms. She wasn't particularly heavy so despite his apparent weakness, the young man was able to hold her quite comfortably.
"Off we go then," said Fanth "and not to worry Amarith, we'll have her back good as new." With that said he began to trot off the sands with Emillyn and hopefully the other two following close behind. He might have just been the Weaver but one would be hard pressed to find a person who did such things as carrying women he hardly knew around, against her will no doubt.

A smile slowly forced its way onto Emillyn face as the sun continued to bake her from its lofty position in the Southern sky, "Hmm? Oh, I'm feeling fine." The sand continued to burn through the soles of her thin sandals and the sky above was a creamy blue.

Brenan quietly wondered how long the weyrwoman had been out today or, rather, how long it had been since Emillyn had gone inside. The young harper had been living at Daliath Weyr for the past couple weeks now and yet he had rarely seen Emillyn inside the shadowy confines of the weyr since she rarely left her dragon's side. 'I know she worried,' Brenan thought as he followed the conversation with his usual sunny expression, 'but...' His inner voice trailed off absently as he added his own supportive little comment to Erris' previous statement, "Perhaps we should all go in for a drink- it is pretty hot out here after all." If we were to measure the expression on a person's face and compare it to a celestial body, everyone's face would have been melted off at the shear sunshiny cute sincerity that managed cover Brenan's face at that very moment. At the very least, anyway, they would have all died of sunstroke.

As it was though, someone was coming very close to such a predicament but for other, more realistic, reasons.

Emillyn didn't even catch Brenan's last remark. It was just background noise, Brenan's voice, the dragonettes. The sand seemed uncertain as it broiled away beneath her feet. Her head swam. It was so hard to concentrate. Beneath her, Amarith shifted and her tail gently, carefully scraped by her rider's heels. The dry air rippled and Emillyn mentally scolded herself, in place of the hulking gold dragon behind her, for skipping so many meals. But as hot as the sand felt through her shoes, it felt even hotter against her face.

You're not very good at black mail. And for the record, I did not post because you're "holding my picture ransom". I did it because I have nothing better to do and had a couple good ideas rolling around in my head. Thank you very much.

(( Fanth just sorta stands there, smiles and nods. He would say something but ... really what good would his bumbling, idiotic words do? Continue without him for a moment. ))

Ria was in a bind and she knew it. There were two choices open for her and neither looked perfect. First she could pull this Darren character off to the side and lie to him, say she didn't know where Andred was. That way he'd be sure to loose the Lord Holder position and she'd get a bitter sweet victory. Or second, she could tell him the truth and hope things worked themselves out. Never one to think this much before her actions, Riamine crossed her arms and proceeded to give her answer.
"Andred is not well at the moment, he's sleeping and should not be disturbed. I'll have my sister go and check on him but as a Healer myself I must ask that you leave him be and go on with this meeting of yours without Andred." Ria gave her report in a rather pushy tone, making sure to complete it with a harsh glare. Hardly anyone dared go against the young woman's word for fear of retaliation of the painful sort.
